The Comedy Club of Kansas City

We enjoyed the comedy show we attended at the Comedy Club of Kansas City. Seating was adequate and not crowded, although the tables could be arranged better so one side of the table wouldn't have the stage to their back. Drink and food choices were adequate, whether you want to eat dinner there or just snack. A full bar with specialty drinks was available as well, but has a two-drink minimum. The club is nicely organized, and the wait staff keeps you in drinks and food, even during the show.

This place will laugh at you if you're funny. Like not in a nice way. Not in a charitable way. Not even in a particularly good way. But they will laugh at you. If you're funny. Also Tim Meadows was there once. That was weird right? Like cool. But weird. Anyways. None of this is what you're supposed to say in a review. Great place, good food, amazing staff.

The greeters and comedians were great, but the night ended on a really sour note with sketchy billing. I came alone tonight to try something new and the staff who helped with tickets and seating were really nice and made me feel comfortable. The comedians were funny (duh). They have the 2 item minimum (standard, not a problem). And since I'm a party of one, they put me at a table with 3 other people (also expected, not a problem). Here's the problem: 1. They charged the 18% gratuity for parties of 8+ (I am one single person by myself sitting at a table of 4). Honestly, this one's not a huge deal because I planned on tipping at least that amount anyway, but it's deceptive and sketchy to do that to people without warning. 2. The staff are required to get your payment done before the show ends, so there's no option to discuss or dispute the issue unless you wanna disrupt the show for others and miss part of the show you paid to see. You have to go try and find someone afterward, and if you pay in cash there's no receipt or record to show what happened. 3. I paid in cash. The server walked away like normal but never came back. No change. And there was no warning or written policy. They just take it and bounce. Completely ignoring the gratuity thing, just the cash issue meant that they took more than I expected (or consented) to pay, which is just dishonest. Realistically, for a night out, it still wasn't terribly expensive. All of this combined just makes it seem very deceptive and sketchy. If a night out is going to cost this much, then that's totally fine; just be clear about costs upfront so it's the customer's choice. But don't arbitrarily apply fees to people without cause and take their extra cash without permisson. I love comedy and would love to see more shows, but I'm not comfortable coming here again.

Went tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday after dinner and we had a great time! The drinks were good with a nice selection of shots too! They had food, which we didn't try since we'd just eaten, but the table next to us had great smelling food! We saw Tom Thakkar and we laughed so much- would definitely go again next time we're in town.

The Comedy Club of Kansas City is everything a comedy club should be and it's in the correct part of the city! The Comedy Club of Kansas City has booked some impressive legends from the old days and some of the hottest new up and coming comics of today. Even if you've never heard of them, you can be confident you're gonna see a good show any given weekend at The Comedy Club of Kansas City.
